Applications for the residency training program are only accepted through the San Francisco Matching Program.

Information specific to the Ophthalmology residency program may be obtained by calling or e-mailing the resident selection coordinator, Barbara Tandon.  Her number is (803) 434-7063 and her e-mail is btandon@uscmed.sc.edu.

Application requirements include college and medical school transcripts, three letters of recommendation, and a letter of recommendation from the dean of your medical school. Applications will be reviewed as soon as all other materials are received. International medical school graduates must provide certification from the International Medical Graduate Examination in the Medical Sciences (IMGEMS) and the ECFMG English Test. Please see the IMG policy in the resident manual on the home page of the Residency programs website.

A selection committee will review all completed applications received before the deadline and emails will be sent to all applicants indicating whether or not they have been selected for interview. Any applications not completed by the designated deadline will not be reviewed.

Interviews are usually held Fridays in November and December. Approximately sixty applicants are invited to visit and interview with the faculty. They will meet with all the residents and go on various tours. There also is an informal resident get-together the night before interviews.

Applicants are notified through the national Ophthalmology Match Program regarding the results of the selection process.
