First-year appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Applicants are selected for interview based on completion of all three steps of the USMLE, letters of recommendation, successful completion of three years of an ACGME accredited General Psychiatry Residency and letter of recommendation from their General Psychiatry Training Director.
International medical graduates must have a valid ECFMG certificate as well as licensure in the state of South Carolina. One year of experience in a medical or surgical setting in the United States is required.
The deadline for applications is November 15. As a standard reference, we require a General Psychiatry Program Training Director letter and a minimum of three letters of recommendation. References should be faculty members who know the candidate well and are in a position to comment on their suitability for the residency. Acceptable candidates may be invited for a personal interview. Interviews are scheduled from July through November, meeting established NRMP deadlines.
Applications must include...
Interviews will be scheduled only after the receipt of the above materials. These materials must be satisfactory and the applicant must be qualified to obtain a permanent South Carolina State Medical Board License (includes the successful completion of all three USMLE exams) before an interview is scheduled. If you are interested in touring any of our facilities or in meeting specific faculty members during your visit, please let us know and we will make arrangements.
