During different years of the training program, residents also take part in "integrated" rotations. These educational experiences are scheduled on one or two days each month the resident is rotating in the emergency department.

The Palmetto Health Richland emergency department currently sees nearly 80,000 patients per year of which more than 21,000 are children. Twenty-one percent of adult patients are admitted to an inpatient service: half of which go to the intensive care unit beds. Eight percent of pediatric patients are admitted. The department admits 1,500 and 2,000 major trauma patients each year. Approximately 30 percent of trauma admissions are from penetrating injuries.
