STATEMENT OF POLICY: Residents are provided compensation and benefits as approved by the GMEC and Palmetto Health .

PROCEDURES: 

Compensation

As of July 1, 2010 residents are provided the following compensation for their respective levels of training.  Compensation is based on level of curriculum, not on individual years in residency training.

License Fees

Limited ($160)  or permanent ($600) license application fee paid (resident pays FCVS credentialing fee); state ($125) and federal ($551) DEA narcotics license fees paid. (Exception: Graduate year prorated reimbursement)

Vacation and Holiday Leave*

Total maximum per year of 20 days for PGY 1 & 2 (23 days for  PGY 3 & above).   

Sick Leave*

Salary continuance for leave, as per appropriate policies

Other Leave*

Varies by type

Parking *

Free parking is provided in assigned areas.

Lab Coats and Laundering

Four (4) lab coats and hospital laundering of these coats.

Credit Union

Payroll deduction savings plan, loans, health savings accounts, flexible spending accounts, and other services available.

Certification Courses

Residency program required courses (such as ACLS, ATLS, Courses        BCLS, and PALS) provided at no cost to resident.

 

Vaccines and related tests

Hepatitis B vaccine, Rubella/Rubeola, Tetanus Diphtheria toxoid, Tuberculin skin test, Influenza vaccine, needle stick exposure protocol, HIV confidential testing provided at no cost to resident.

 

Socials/Activities

 Functions organized by the Resident's Auxiliary.

 

Meals*

 Meal allowance while on-duty. Meals provided while on-call in-house.

 

Medical Liability Insurance

 Provided at no premium cost to resident (for education-related patient care activities).

 

Health Insurance

 Provided at no premium cost to resident. Resident may choose family coverage by paying premium difference. Plans include prescription drug benefit.

 

Dental Insurance

Low option coverage provided at no premium cost to resident. Family coverage available by paying premium difference.  Resident may choose high option by paying premium difference.

 

Counseling Services

First five (5) appointments per calendar year provided at no cost for resident and members of their families. Additional services at employee rate.

 

Vision Care

Vision care available at employee and family rates.

 

Life Insurance

Provided at no premium cost to resident for 1 times base salary. Additional coverage available.

 

Disability Insurance

Long term disability plans provided at no premium cost to resident.

 

Retirement Plan

403(b)/401(k) plans available to residents. Matching contributions by Palmetto Health after PGY 1.

 

Discounts

Discounts on retail sales, theatres, zoos, theme parks, fitness centers, many other services available to residents through Palmetto Health Employee Discount Advantage Plan.

 

Educational Materials

Allowance for journals, books, and/or other approved educational items.

 

Information Access

Electronic access provided to patient electronic medical records and to holdings of academic libraries, journal subscriptions, and other sources (such as MD Consult, Up to Date, Procedures Consult)

 

Travel for Scholarly Presentations

Up to $500.00 per presentation through the GME office; may be supplemented by department budgets.

 

USMLE/COMLEX fee*

Step III fee ($705) paid for PGY 1 residents one time.

 

Other Optional Benefits
