Dr. James Bouknight spent almost a decade as an economist before returning to school in the mid-1980s to pursue his medical education.  Prior to his medical degree, he received a bachelor of arts in economics from Wofford College, Spartanburg, South Carolina; a master of arts in economics from Duke University, Durham, North Carolina; and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of South Carolina, Columbia, South Carolina.

Dr. Bouknight was employed by the Columbia Area Mental Health Center and WJB Dorn Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Columbia, South Carolina; and Charter Rivers Hospital, West Columbia, South Carolina. During five years at Charter Rivers Hospital he served as Director of the Partial Hospitalization Program, Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Service and president of the medical staff. Dr. Bouknight joined the faculty of the USC School of Medicine in 1993, and was named Director of Geriatric Psychiatry in 2004.

Board certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry, Dr. Bouknight has added qualifications in geriatric psychiatry. His special interests are in the treatment of dementias and mood disorders.

Dr. Shilpa Srinivasan joined the faculty of the University of South Carolina School of Medicine in 2006.

Before pursuing her fellowship in geriatric psychiatry, she was employed as a staff psychiatrist with the Satilla Community Service Board in Ware and Clinch County, Georgia. She also served as a consultant to Garden Gate Women's Substance Abuse Residential Rehabilitation Program; and WINGS Women's Outpatient Substance Abuse Rehabilitation Program, in Waycross, Georgia. Her special interests are mental health issues in minority elderly, cross-cultural psychiatry, geriatric depression, and clinical trials research. Dr. Kimberly B. Rudd works part-time on the Research Team, serves as a geriatric psychiatrist with South Carolina Department of Mental Health and is a Clinical Assistant Professor with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine.  In 2009 she became a diplomate in the specialty of psychiatry for the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Rudd has a passion for academics and research. Her areas of interests include medical student and resident education and recruitment, geriatric psychiatry, and co-morbid med/psych issues. Dr. Rudd has had several presentations at national meetings including IPS, APA, AADPRT, and AAGP and publications in Academic Psychiatry and the Evidence Based Medicine Journal of University of South Carolina Department of Neuropsychiatry.
