Candidates should complete the application process through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Submission of applications will begin in September of each year and applications are accepted through the end of December. Interviews are conducted from mid-November through the end of January. You should provide the following in place when applying:
- Transcript
- National Board scores (Step 1 and 2) / USMLE scores
- Three letters of recommendation
- Letter from the Dean
- Personal Statement
Our program offers:
- PGY 1 residents: 3 categorical
- PGY 2–4 residents: 3 per year
The interview process at a glance:
- The residency selection committee reviews preliminary data and extends to selected candidates an invitation to visit the Palmetto Richland/University of South Carolina campus for a personal interview.
- Department schedules a one night hotel accommodation at no cost to the applicant.
- Evening before the interview: Applicants are scheduled to meet with faculty and/or residents for dinner.
- Interview day: Meet with Chairman; interview with three faculty members; tour Palmetto Health Richland and Dorn VA; lunch with Faculty & Program Director.
Acceptance into the program requires graduation from a medical school approved by the Council on Graduate Medical Education of the AMA. We welcome foreign graduates to apply however, foreign graduates must have standard ECFMG certificates and be eligible for permanent immigrant status as well as for licensure in South Carolina. First-year appointments are made through the matching plan of the National Resident Matching Program. All applications and interviews will be completed in time to allow both parties to meet NRMP deadlines.
