We appreciate your interest in our surgical training program at Palmetto Health Richland and the University of South Carolina School of Medicine. Our residency, as a true "university" training program, is young and dynamic and we view our youth as one of our greatest assets. We are fortunate to have at our disposal an extensive patient population, modern facilities in which to practice and learn, and energetic, dedicated faculty.
Over the past several years, our training program has become nationally recognized for training competent and experienced surgeons. Our graduates have obtained prestigious positions, both in private practice and in academia. Recent residents also have secured quality fellowships for continued training.
We consider surgical training at Palmetto Health Richland to be one of the last vestiges of traditional surgical training in the United States. The absence of fellowship programs for specialty education provides additional experience (both operative and non-operative) for our house staff in the surgical disciplines that is not available in many institutions. Furthermore, we are committed to academic excellence in the true spirit of a university program as well as to the delivery of the highest standard of patient care.
We are proud of our many accomplishments to date and excited about our future. We are sure you will find challenging opportunities here that will help you mature into a successful physician and surgeon.
