Acceptance requires graduation from a medical school approved by the Liaison Council on Graduate Medical Education of the American Medical Association.

First-year appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program beginning July 1. All applicants are considered for interview after receipt of:

  • An application and personal statement;
  • Transcripts and USMLE or COMLEX board scores;
  • Two letters of personal recommendation; and
  • A letter from the medical school dean.

The Department's Resident Selection Committee screens applicants according to the following criteria:

  • USMLE: Must score 192 on both Step I and II, successful completion of CS
  • Graduated from an accredited medical school within the last 3 years
  • US Citizenship or unrestricted authorization to be employed in the US
  • Valid ECFMG license, if FMG
  • Two years U.S. clinical experience, if FMG
  • All applications through ERAS


The deadline for applications is December 15. All application materials are received through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). We also strongly encourage all applicants to complete Step 2 of the USMLE or COMLEX before January 1 of their fourth year.
