Palmetto Health is South Carolina's largest and most comprehensive not-for-profit, integrated healthcare system consisting of Palmetto Health Richland and Palmetto Health Baptist in Columbia, and Palmetto Health Baptist in Easley. Centers of excellence include cardiology, pediatrics, obstetrics, oncology, orthopaedics, psychiatry, nephrology, neonatology, neurology and neurosurgery, trauma and emergency medicine and medical/surgical services. Each year, the three hospitals treat nearly a half million patients, welcome more than 6,700 babies into the world, care for more than 3,000 cancer patients, treat more than 82,000 pediatric patients, make nearly 39,000 home care visits, and accommodate nearly 134,000 emergency visits. In total, Palmetto Health operates 1,247 beds, has a 1,000-plus-member medical and dental staff, and employs more than 9,000 people. Our community health outreach initiative ensured $17 million over a seven-year period in targeted programming to uninsured and underinsured individuals.

Presently, there are twelve residency programs (Dental Medicine, Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Internal Medicine/Pediatrics, Obstetrics & Gynecology, Ophthalmology, Orthopaedics, Pediatrics, Psychiatry/General and Child/Adolescent, and Surgery) and 8 fellowships (Emergency Medicine/Ultrasound, Endocrinology, Geriatrics, Psychiatry/Forensic, Psychiatry/Geriatrics, Pulmonary, Surgery/Critical Care, and Sports Medicine) with a total of over 230 residents and fellows in training.
