Residents' Auxiliary
Print This Page
Dear Resident and your Family, On behalf of the Residents Auxiliary, I would like to welcome you and your family to Palmetto Health. For those of you moving to the Columbia area we would like to make your transition a little easier. Please do not hesitate to contact me at the number and e-mail listed below. I will be happy to help in any way possible. The Residents Auxiliary was started to assist the residents and their families in the transition between medical school and residency. Its goal is to support the families during the very difficult years of residency. There are funds available for the Auxiliary to use for the residents and their families' activities. I first found out about the Auxiliary last August and since that time many of the residents' spouses have been helping me to plan activities. We did a fall party at a farm and had a cookout and hayride. We also had a Christmas party with Santa Claus. Please view our newsletter that we started this year. It gives you some great Web sites around Columbia for things to do and a way to connect with other residents and their families. You may want to check out a magazine called Living Here, produced by The State newspaper. This magazine is great! It includes some information on demographics; government, post offices, radio stations; traffic; maps; real estate; public schools and there report cards; private schools; parks; libraries; professional sports; and who to contact to get your electric and gas turned on; Cable and DirecTV information and much, much more. There is also relocation information on the Palmetto Health Web site on this page. Also, please take a look at the hospital's Graduate Medical Education (GME) Web page. We would love to have your spouse involved in our activities and support groups. Once you get settled, please send us an e-mail with the e-mail address that you will be checking on a regular basis during residency along with your spouse's e-mail address. If we have a separate e-mail address for your spouse it will enable us to contact them for things like spouses support group, children's play dates and planning activities. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, and I will be happy to help in any way possible. Michele Anderson Resident Auxiliary Newsletters:
