MarkWilliams-web.pngIn Columbia, the training and education of our future physicians has been a vital mission of Prisma Health (formerly Palmetto Health) for almost a century. As you consider and examine our programs, you will see robust investments in facilities, excellent clinicians and an enormous breadth of clinical opportunities. The unique partnership between the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Prisma Health enables us to combine the best of an academic environment along with a mission-driven and highly successful community health system.

We currently offer training in over 24 residency and fellowship programs and are considering additional programs as health care continues to evolve and physician workforce needs may change. Our faculty and staff are committed to providing an experience that reflects the most innovative and progressive models of teaching and patient care while, at the same time, fostering the acquisition of leadership and team-building skills for all of our physicians-in-training.

At present, there are more than 250 residents and fellows who have chosen to pursue their training at Prisma Health. The medical school affiliation, the wide range of clinical settings, the quality of the medical and nursing staff and the clear commitment to great patient care assure that you will enjoy an excellent and challenging learning experience.

On behalf of the entire Prisma Health community, I invite you to review our programs and consider making a visit to meet with our faculty, residents and fellows. You will encounter a warm and friendly atmosphere with individuals who are committed to your education but also your well-being and your future.  Thank you again.

Les Hall, MDThe University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Prisma Health share a deep commitment to high quality medical education and outstanding patient care. The affiliation between our two entities provides the foundation for clinical and translational research opportunities. Resident physicians at Prisma Health gain access to the latest in medical equipment, facilities and clinical programs. They also join a team that has a proven track record of delivering outstanding patient outcomes and promoting high levels of patient satisfaction. We believe that the best medical education occurs in settings offering the safest, high-quality care. The community orientation of the School of Medicine and the dedication of our faculty to quality teaching help ensure the type of supportive, collegial learning environment at Prisma Health that is so crucial to the process of medical education.

Residents are a vital part of the academic life of the School of Medicine, both as students and teachers. When you visit our programs, we believe our residents will confirm that their opportunity to train medical students provides one of the most rewarding aspects of their educational experience. As faculty at the School of Medicine, we consider it an honor and a privilege to serve as physicians and therefore seek residents who share that vision. As a result, we feel it is our obligation to ensure that we provide the type of medical education and support that will prepare you to serve your patients and practice the best medical care.
