Visiting Medical Student Electives

Interested candidates must submit an application on the Visiting Student Application Service (VSAS).

Emergency Medicine 

A four-week elective rotation is available for senior medical students. 

The rotation consists of the following:

  • Fifteen 8-hour shifts
  • Didactic Lectures
  • Simulation Medicine Training
  • EMS shifts (optional)

Pediatric Emergency Medicine 

A four-week elective rotation is available for senior medical students. 

The rotation consists of the following:

  • Fifteen 8-hour shifts exclusively in the Children's Emergency Center
  • Didactic Lectures
  • Simulation Medicine Training

Wilderness Medicine 

A four-week elective rotation is available for senior medical students. This rotation is only available during four weeks in spring of each year.

The rotation consists of the following:

  • Wilderness Medicine Lecture Series
  • Skills Lab
  • 4-day camping trip to Appalachian Mountains

Clinical Ultrasound

A two or four-week elective rotation is available for senior medical students.

The rotation consists of the following:

  • Internet-based curriculum with more than 20 online modules
  • Case review with ultrasound fellows
  • Clinical Scanning in the emergency department. 
  • Simulation Medicine session using CAE ultrasound simulators
