Family Medicine Residency Educational Experience

Solid teaching blocks in both ambulatory and hospital settings give residents what they need to be wise, effective, capable physicians in today's practice environment. We use a four-week block rotation system.

First Year

  • Family Medicine Center: 1 block
  • MICU: 1 block
  • Obstetrics (includes Family Medicine Maternity rotation): 2 block
  • General Surgery: 1 block
  • Family Medicine Center Procedures: 1 block
  • Family Medicine Inpatient: 2 blocks
  • Inpatient Pediatrics: 1 block
  • Ambulatory Pediatrics: 1 block
  • Community  Medicine: 1 block
  • Newborn Nursery: 1 block
  • Ultrasound: 1 block

Second Year

  • Coronary Care Unit: 1 block
  • Cardiology: 1 block
  • Sports Medicine: 1 block
  • Inpatient Pediatrics: 1 block
  • Orthopaedics: 1 block
  • Musculoskeletal Medicine: 1 block
  • Family Medicine Inpatient: 2 blocks
  • Emergency Medicine: 1 block
  • Gynecology/Women's Health: 1 block
  • Behavioral Medicine: 1 block
  • Elective: 2 blocks

Third Year (administered longitudinally)

  • Family Medicine Inpatientz: 13 weeks
  • Dermatology: 1 block
  • ENT/Dental: 1 block
  • Geriatrics: 1 block
  • Practice Management: 2 weeks
  • Ambulatory Pediatrics: 1 block
  • Pediatric Emergency Department: 2 weeks
  • Hospice/Palliative Care: 2 weeks
  • Wound Care: 1 week
