HomeResidency Plastic Surgery Message from the Program Director

Message from the Director

Thank you for your interest in our training program. We have recently been approved by the residency review committee to offer an integrated plastic surgery training program. I have spent over thirty years training general surgery residents the principles and practices of plastic surgery and was very proud to see many of my residents choose to further their careers with training in plastic surgery.

I am therefore extremely excited to have this opportunity to directly train plastic surgery residents. Our program will offer a unique opportunity for individualized instruction in all aspects of the specialty. I have assembled a combination of young and experienced practitioners, both full time academic and private practitioners, to mentor residents in the diverse facets of plastic surgery. In addition, as a cell biologist, I have always had an interest in scientific investigation and feel that life-long learning and questioning are important principles in the creation of excellence in physician education. Residents in our training program will be involved in either clinical or basic science research throughout their development.

The first three years of the program will be devoted to exposure to the core principles of surgery with a taste of various surgical subspecialties, while the latter years will focus on the diverse aspects of plastic and reconstructive surgery. With a small core group of residents we will be able to offer very individualized consideration to our residents, encouraging their strengths and helping to assist in areas that require more attention. The faculty in our group understand the values of kindness, humor, respect and consideration that are important to resident education. We look forward to having you meet and join our family.
