HomeResidency Surgery How to Apply

Surgery Residency Application Information

Candidates should complete the application process through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Submission of applications will begin in September of each year and applications are accepted through the end of December. Interviews are conducted from mid-November through the end of January. You should have the following in place when applying:

  • Transcript
  • Completion of National Board examinations
  • Three letters of recommendation
  • Letter from the Dean
  • International/Foreign Medical Graduates are welcome to apply but must be a US citizen or hold a green card as a permanent resident
Our program offers three categorical positions and two designated preliminary positions. We do not limit acceptance based on a candidate's year of graduation.

The residency selection committee reviews preliminary data and extends to selected candidates an invitation to interview.

After interviews are completed, the Department of Surgery faculty makes its selection based on many facets of the candidate's performance and submits a rank-ordered list to the National Resident Matching Program.

For questions or additional information, email Sandra Bolton, residency coordinator.
